what can you run on a 2000 watt generator

a generator  has two power ratings, the maximum or the starting power and the running or rated power.
The maximum or sometime called the peak power is the  maximum amount of power the generator can have ,  the running  power or the rated power is the power at which the generator can run when load is been attached.
Home appliance also has power ratings,  they have the maximum and the running watt.
Electric devices will normally require much more power for starting while less power for the running,
Therefore to a 2000 watt generator, assuming this is the peak power of the generator can run a device with a maximum power below 2000 watt,  a fan , a phone charger, a television sets , air conditioners with a ratings below 800 watts will usually have a starting watts of about 1500 watt, a fan  with a rating of 100 watt can normally have a  starting rating of 150 watts, therefore when you wanted to run this devices both at same time
You should calculate their starting power to see that it is not actually more than the maximum generator out,
You can alternatively starting one  device before the other if you want, since when a device is running  the power it requires is far less than  what it  requires for starting.
Secondly , if the 2000 watt is the running watt of the generator it maximum power will likely be 2800 0r 3000 watt,
Now the starting watt of your electric device should be put into consideration.
An electric iron  with a rating of 500 watt, may have a starting watt of 800  nd a refrigerator of rating 1000 watt may have a starting watt of 1500 watts,  you can run this two  device simultaneously because their total starting power is not more than the maximum power of the gen and their running power is not more than the  running power of the generator.
